W.W.II. period British military pocket watch made by the quality Swiss watch manufacturer Jaeger LeCoultre. Issued in 1939.
Chrome plated case with snap-on back and bezel. British military markings on back of case : War Department arrow, "G.S.T.P. (General Service Temporary Pattern)" and "F034014". Bezel still fitted with original acrylic UB glass. Case diameter (not including crown) : 52mm. Case condition : 80% (slight wear to plating).
Original cream coloured dial with subsidiary seconds. Black numerals, luminous hour markers, numerals (12, 3 & 9) and skeleton hands. (luminous paint no longer active). Dial condition : 80%.
High quality, gilt, 15 jewel movement.
Signed, "Jaeger LeCoultre" (calibre 467/2). Movement condition (appearance) :
95%. Recently serviced. Time keeping : good.
When Britain declared war with Germany in
1939, it was ill prepared and quickly ordered stocks of standard pocket watches
to supply its army. These were procured from a number of Swiss watch
manufacturers and were not specifically designed for their applications. These
watches were classified "General Service - Temporary Pattern".
