Very rare, unusual and high quality sterling silver cigarette lighter with a built-in, concealed watch. Made in 1934 by the high class London jewellers, Asprey & Co.
Very unusual and ingenious cylindrical, two part case which houses both a cigarette lighter and a watch. The two halves of the case separate with a quarter turn. The bottom section houses a flint wheel, petrol fuelled cigarette lighter and the top half, a concealed watch. The lighter slides out of its case enabling it to be refuelled and the flint replaced. The section housing the watch has a clever design, the watch being enclosed and protected within the cylindrical case. The central portion of the case has a swivel mechanism, which once turned, reveals the watch. The case is decorated with an attractive machine engraved design. Overall case length: 75mm. Case condition: 80% (a tiny ding to the case underside and a minor blemish to the engraving).
Attractive Art Deco style, silvered watch dial with black stylized numerals and blued steel hands. Dial condition: 95%.
Nice quality, nickel plated, Swiss made, 17 jewel rectangular movement (3.75 x 10 ligne) manufactured by Fontainemelon (calibre FHF 59). Capped escape wheel jewels. Bi-metallic compensation balance wheel. Movement condition (appearance): 90%. Working order.
