Very unusual, stylish,
Art Deco fob watch made by the quality Swiss watch manufacturer, Juvenia, and dating from around 1935.
Unusual, solid, chrome plated ‘U’
shaped case suspended from a black leather tab. The watch and winding crown is
fixed within the centre of the case and both the front and back are protected by
acrylic UB crystals (allowing the movement to be viewed). Case width: 30mm. Case
length (not including leather tab): 42mm, (including leather tab): 75mm. Case
condition: 85%.
Original, attractive two-tone silver
dial with black hour markers and the numerals, ‘3, 6, 9 & 12’. Dial signed, “Juvenia”.
Blued steel hands. Dial condition: 90%.Nice quality, silvered, 8.75
ligne, 16 jewel movement ( FHF calibre 61). Signed, "Juvenia". Plates decorated
with a striped machine engraved design. Bi-metallic compensation balance
wheel. Breguet overcoil hair spring. Movement condition (appearance) :
95%. Recently serviced. Time keeping : good.
In 1860, Jacques
Didisheim-Goldschmidt founded a watch making workshop at St Imier, Switzerland
which he named Juvenia. Shortly after he relocated to La Chaux-de-Fonds. In
1880, the company produced one of the first ladies wristwatches and in 1914 it
manufactured the smallest movement yet made. The company became renowned for its
unusual, avant-garde and trend-setting designs.
