Scarce, high quality, gold filled pocket watch produced by "The Jos. L. Kurtz Watch Co., New York" using a movement manufactured by Longines. Dating from around 1900.
Gold filled case with a screw-on back & bezel. Inside back signed, "Muhr Watch Case Co. - Guaranteed 20 Years". Both back & bezel decorated with an engine turned design. Still fitted with original glass crystal. Case diameter (not including pendant) : 50.5mm. Case condition : 80% (slight wear to plating).
White enamel dial with sunk subsidiary seconds. Black numerals and a red outer minute chapter. Blued steel hands. Dial Signed, "The Jos. L. Kurtz Watch Co., New York". Dial condition : 100%.
High quality, nickel plated, 19 ligne, 17
jewel adjusted movement manufactured by Longines. Movement decorated with Geneva
stripes and signed, "The Jos. L. Kurtz Watch Co., New York".
Also signed, "Wittnauer Longines" (on back plate,
under dial - see picture). Gold screw
chaton set jewels. Micrometer regulator. Compensation balance wheel. Breguet
overcoil hairspring. Movement condition (appearance) : 90%. Recently serviced.
Time keeping : good.
The Compagnie des Montres Longines Francillon S.A. was formed in the 1830s by Ernest Francillon at Saint-Imier, Switzerland and has always been renowned for design and precision. Famous aviators, explorers and pioneers have all consulted Longines. The company provided timers used at the first modern day Olympics in 1892 and has been closely associated with the worldwide development of sport timing ever since. It has been responsible for timekeeping at no less than fourteen Olympic Games.
