High quality, 'V.308' 8 day "Time of Trip" chronograph aircraft clock manufactured by the Swiss manufacturer, Jaeger LeCoultre and supplied to the Royal Air Force by Smiths. These clocks were intended for use in early jet fighter aircraft. This clock dates from 1954.

This clock has a black painted metal case with three buttons mounted on it's front. The left-hand button is used to wind the clock and set the hands, the right-hand button to start, stop and reset the chronograph function, and the centre button disables the small hands on the upper 'Time of Trip' dial. The dial is marked with alternate luminous numerals and luminous hands (luminous paint no longer active) and an inner 24 hour chapter. At the twelve o'clock position is a smaller subsidiary dial which records the duration of a flight. Above the 6 o'clock position is a small green indicator which changes to red when centre button is turned, disabling the time of trip hands. The large sweep seconds hand records the seconds. The back of the case is impressed with the Ministry of Defence arrow and bears an applied aluminium plate stamped with the following information : "Code : V 308", "Ser. No. : 3037/54" and "6A/3157". The dial is in signed "Smiths - 8 Day". These clocks are fitted with a beautiful quality, gilt, 13 jewel, 8-day chronograph movement made by the top Swiss manufacturer, Jaeger LeCoultre. Overall width of clock : 95mm. Good condition (some wear and tear to paint on case and minor scratch on glass). Good working order.

The clock is currently mounted in a very nice solid oak case which has been beautifully hand made specially for this clock. It allows the clock to be stood on a desk or table. The back of the case has a hinged flap which when opened gives access to the regulator and identification plate. The clock can be easily removed from the wooden case if required.
