Rare Large ROSKOPF Military Type Wrist Watch (Unusual BORGEL Style Case). c.1920
SOLD
Rare,
sterling silver Roskopf military type wrist watch with an unusual case
(derivative of the Borgel patent) with swivel lugs. Fitted with a nice quality,
Roskopf signed, Swiss lever movement (unlike the usual pin pallet type movement
normally used in their watches). Dating from around 1920. Watches such as these
were designed with military use in mind and were more often that not sold to
troops as private purchase items.
Unusual,
large, sterling silver, "Borgel" type case with swivel lugs. This case
differs from the standard Borgel version by having a threaded bezel instead of a
threaded movement holder. The bezel is attached to the movement and can be
unscrewed from the main body of the case allowing the movement and winding crown
assembly to be removed. Case signed "F.B"
(François Borgel
- a Swiss company specialising in early dust/moisture-proof cases) and "Roskopf".
Case is also stamped with a Swiss "0.935" silver standard hallmark
(purer than sterling). Fitted with a UB acrylic crystal. Case diameter (not
including crown) : 36mm. Case condition : 90%.
White
enamel military style dial with subsidiary seconds. Luminous hands and numerals.
Dial condition : 98% (a very faint hairline).
Nice
quality, nickel plated, Swiss made, 15 jewel movement. Signed,
"Roskopf". Unusual type regulator. Decorated with "Geneve
Stripe" engine turning. Movement condition (appearance): 95%. Recently
serviced. Time keeping : good.
