Large, high quality, sterling silver, open face "fusee" English lever pocket watch with "up & down" power reserve dial. Made by renowned Liverpool watchmakers, Thomas Russell & Son (watchmaker to Queen Victoria). Dating from 1902.
Large, heavy sterling silver open face case with hinged back and bezel and gold hinges. Back opens to reveal keyhole. Back decorated with an attractive, hand engraved "shield & belt" design. Fully stamped with English (Chester) hallmarks corresponding to the year 1902. Also stamped with the maker's marks, "T.R." (Thomas Russell). Case no. : 104849 (matching movement serial number). Movement accessed by opening hinged bezel, then unlocking movement by pressing in sprung bolt at 6 o'clock position. Movement can then be swung out on hinge. Still fitted with original domed glass crystal in nice condition (a couple of very minor scratches). Case diameter (not including pendant) : 58mm. Case thickness (including crystal) : 23mm. Case condition : 90%. .
White enamel dial with sunk subsidiary seconds and "up & down" power reserve dials. Bold, hand painted Roman numerals. Dial signed by "Tho's. Russell & Son - 18 Church St., Liverpool". Hands are adjusted by fitting key over steel stud in their centre. Dial condition : 95% (a short fine hairline below subsidiary seconds).
Nice quality, gilt, fusee driven English lever movement. Key wound (winds anti-clockwise). Signed, "Tho's. Russell & Son - Church St., Liverpool - Makers to Queen Victoria". Movement no. : 104849 (matching case serial number). Large under sprung, cut, bi-metallic compensation balance wheel. "Bosley" type regulator. Screwed chaton set jewels. Gilt brass movement dust cover with sliding locking device. Movement condition (appearance) : 90%. Recently serviced. Time keeping : good. Watch comes with appropriate key.
