Oversize Silver English Lever Chronograph Pocket Watch. 1887

Oversized (60mm diameter), sterling silver chronograph pocket watch with a key wound fusee driven English lever movement. Dating from 1887.
Heavy sterling silver case with hinged bezel, back and inner dust cover. Back of case opened by pressing the button mounted in the centre of the pendant (back originally sprung loaded - spring still present, but no longer effective). Inner dust cover has two key holes, one for winding the watch (winds anti-clockwise), the other for setting the hands. Gold hinges and chronograph movement stopping switch (mounted on edge of case at 2 o'clock position). Back nicely hand engraved with a shield and belt design. Stamped with a full English sterling silver hallmark corresponding to the year 1877, and with case maker's mark, "J.F.". Serial number, "28735" (matching those on both movement and dial). Case diameter (not including pendant) : 60mm. Case condition : 85%.
White enamel dial with black roman numerals and outer chapter divided into 5ths of a second (numbered up to 300 in intervals of 25). Signed, "H. Kauffman, Manchester - Centre Seconds Chronograph - No.28735". Silver coloured hands and blue steel chronograph sweep second hand. Dial condition : 98% (small nick on edge of dial, not visible, hidden under bezel).
Nice quality, gilt, three quarter plate, fusee driven, English lever movement. Screwed chaton set jewels. Chronograph (movement stopping) mechanism. Over sprung, cut, bi-metallic compensation balance wheel. Signed, "Manufactured for H. Kauffman, Manchester - No.28735". Movement condition (appearance) : 85%. Time keeping : good.
Comes with original period key.
