

W.W.I. period Zenith alarm pocket watch retailed by Birch & Gaydon, London (a supplier of equipment to the British military). Most likely to be sold to servicemen as a private purchase item. Dating from around 1915.
Blue steel case with gilt fittings. Snap-on bezel, and hinged back and inner dust cover. The base of the back has a foot which when the back is opened, allows the watch to be stood upright. Watch is wound by turning the winding crown to the right and the alarm is wound by turning to the left. Nail set button for setting hands mounted on edge of case a the 11 o'clock position and a separate button mounted a 1 o'clock for setting the alarm. Case diameter (not including pendant) : 52.5mm. Case condition : 90%.
White enamel military style dial with separate alarm register and subsidiary seconds. Luminous hands and numerals (luminous paint no longer active). Signed, "Birch & Gaydon, London". Dial condition : 100%.
Nice quality, gilt, 15 jewel movement with alarm mechanism striking on a gong. Two mainsprings (one powering the watch mechanism, the other powering the alarm). Movement condition (appearance) : 95%. Good working order. Time keeping : good.
