Genuine "Lord Mayor (London) & Sheriffs' Committee" Medal. 1898

Rare, fine quality medal presented to a member of the Lord Mayor (of London) & Sheriffs' Committee. Dated Nov. 1898.
This exquisite gilded medal is very beautifully (jeweller) made in a very attractive Gothic style. In the centre of front the of the medal is an enamelled shield bearing the arms of the City of London. Surrounding this are the initials "C. P. M. J. A. Q. P." (uncertain of significance), the blue enamelled Latin motto, "Domine Dirige Nos" and the engraved date "Nov. 1898". The reverse is professionally hand engraved with the inscription, "Lord Mayor & Sheriff's Committee - Percy Clifford Probyn". The medal is suspended from it's original silk ribbon. Width : 36mm. Very good condition.
The Lord Mayor of London elected in November 1898 was Sir John Moore.
