Rare 1889 Paris Universal Exposition Exhibitor's Medal
SOLD

Scarce, original bronze exhibitors medal from the 1889 Paris Universal Exposition.
The front of this very attractive medal shows a goddess presenting a man with a laurel wreath. Below is an image of the exposition buildings including the Eiffel Tower (which was specially built for the occasion). The medal bears the caption "Exposition Universelle 1889" and also the name of the artist, "Louis Bottee". The reverse is decorated with the image of a goddess and an angel with a trumpet. It bears the inscription, "Republique Francaise" and with the exhibitor's name, "Mirchouse". The edge is stamped, "Bronze". Width : 63mm. Fair amount of wear and tear (mainly to edges and finish), however this does not distract from the beauty of it's design or the scarcity of this medal.
