Sterling Silver Propelling Pencil With Perpetual Calendar. 1920s
SOLD

Nice quality sterling silver, telescopic propelling pencil with built-in perpetual calendar. Dating from the 1920's.
The pencil is decorated with an attractive engine turned "wavy line" design. On it's end is mounted a seven sided calendar which has a rotating "days of the week" section with a sprung loaded locking device. This section can be "pulled out" and turned so that the current day of the week lines up with the day of the month. Once this has been done, the calendar is then set for the rest of the month. The days and months are inlaid with black and red enamel. The pencil extends telescopically by pulling on the calendar end. The calendar section also unscrews to reveal a spare lead reservoir. The lead is propelled by twisting the calendar end of the pencil. The pencil has a pocket clip which is stamped, "Sterling Silver". Length : 133mm. Length (fully extended) : 163mm. Very good condition. Good working order.
