19th C. Silver S. Mordan & Co. "Magic" Propelling Pencil. c.1880 (Open)

Nice quality silver (typically unmarked) telescopic "magic" propelling pencil made in London, England by the renowned silversmith's/pencil maker's Sampson Mordan & Co., dating from around 1880.

The outer casing is beautifully hand engraved over it's entire surface with an attractive foliate design. The pencil opens telescopically by pulling on the end of the pencil, this also extends the lead nozzle automatically . Lead is propelled by holding the outer casing and twisting the lead nozzle. Signed, "S. Mordan & Co.". Lead mark on nozzle : "V.S.". Length of pencil - not including bale ring (fully closed) : 53mm, (fully extended) : 95mm. Nice condition. Good working order.
