corresponding to the year 1920 and with the maker’s initials, “J.A.R.” (J. A. Restall & Co., Cambridge St, Birmingham). The reverse of the shield is
beautifully hand engraved with inscription, “June 1921 – Mrs A.C. Smith”.
Overall length: 126mm. Very good condition.
The Singapore
Golf Club established the first golf course in Singapore and was opened by the
Governor of the Straits Settlements, Sir
Cecil Clementi Smith in June 1891. It was located at the race course (now Farrer
Park) and in 1924 it moved to Bukit Timah. In 1938 King George VI became the
patron of the club and from then on it was known as the Royal Singapore Golf
Club. In 1962 it merged with the Island Club, forming The Singapore Island
Country Club.
