Silver & Enamel Gravity Pencil / Perpetual Calendar c.1900

SOLD

Silver & Enamel Gravity Pencil / Perpetual Calendar c.1900

Good quality, French imported silver, seven sided gravity pencil with central rotating barrel inset with a blue enamel calendar.

The days of the week (in blue and red enamel) are inset around the body above the barrel. The barrel can be turned so that a particular day of the month lines up with it's correct day of the week. Once this has been done, the calendar is then set for the rest of the month. This pencil has a gravity action, when the button mounted on the end of the body is fully depressed and is held vertically, the pencil (which is stored inside) drops down. Once the button is released the pencil is locked in place. The same is done to retract the pencil, except the body is held in the opposite direction. The pencil can be removed and replaced by unscrewing it from the casing. The bale ring and bale ring attachment both have French silver import hallmarks (I am unaware of the country which this pencil was imported from). Length of Pencil (fully closed) : 61mm. Good condition (a couple of small dings to body and a tiny amount of enamel missing from the red "S" (Sunday)).
