George V (George Frederick Ernest Albert) was born on
3 June 1865 and was King of the United Kingdom and the British
Dominions, and Emperor of India, from 6 May 1910, through World War I
(1914–1918) until his death in 1936. He was crowned on
the 23rd of June 1911 and was the first British monarch of
the House of Windsor, which he created from the British branch of the
German House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
HMS Royal George (originally named HMS Royal Charles)
was a 100-gun First rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, built at
Portsmouth Dockyard and launched in March 1673. Throughout her life, she
was rebuilt three times. The first time was in 1693 when she was renamed
HMS Queen, then again in 1715, this time renamed HMS Royal George, and last
of all in 1756 when she was finally renamed HMS Royal Anne. The ship was
broken up in 1767.
HMS King George V was a 23,400 tonne 'King
George V-class' dreadnought battleship which was launched in
1911. During W.W.I. she took part in the Battle of Jutland,
being the lead ship of the 1st Division of the 2nd Battle
Squadron. She was decommissioned in 1919, used as a training
ship between 1923-26 and scrapped in 1926.
