Large Silk Cigarette Cards. "W.W.I Characters" c.1916

Four large size silk cigarette cards, nicely printed with images of British Great War characters.

These "silks" probably come from the "Great War Leaders & Celebrities" set made by Godfrey Phillips Ltd. The four "silks" depict the following characters :

ADMIRAL SIR JOHN R. JELLICOE

Sir John Rushworth Jellicoe - 1st Earl, Admiral of the Fleet. Size : 162mm x 118mm.

ADMIRAL JACKSON

Henry Bradwardine Jackson - Chief of the War Staff at the Admiralty. Size : 163mm x 119mm.

NURSE CAVELL

Edith Cavell. British nurse who from behind enemy lines helped lost allied soldiers escape to Holland. She was executed by the Germans in 1915. Size : 154mm x 109mm.

GENERAL FRENCH

John Denton Pinkstone French. Commander in Chief of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) 1914. Size : 163mm x 119mm.

All four items in good condition. Some slightly creased, but could easily be straightened by pressing.
