Scarce matchbox cover was produced during the First World War in remembrance of Lord Kitchener who died on board HMS Hampshire in June 1915.

This cover is made from celluloid coated steel. The front bears the image of Lord Kitchener in his full dress uniform. The spine has the caption, “In Memoriam. The Late Lord Kitchener. Born June 24th, 1850. Lost with H.M.S. Hampshire, June 5th, 1916.”. The reverse lists the most notable moments in his career. Still fitted over an original, period, Bryant & May matchbox! Dimensions of cover: 62.5mm x 41mm x 24mm. Good condition (slight staining).
