High quality, silver plated bronze medal depicting a beautiful cycling and railway image. Made as a souvenir of the Lyon Express train and dating from around 1890.

This front of this attractive medal is decorated with a very detailed image of a cyclist (sitting upon an early safety bicycle) watching a steam locomotive pass. It also bears the artist’s signature, “A. Erdmann”. The reverse bears the images of a shield, a lion and a decorative cartouche. Engraved around the edge is the following inscription, “Don de L'Express de Lyon” (Gift of the Express Train of Lyon). The rim of the medal is stamped, "Bronze". Diameter : 40mm. Nice condition.
