Admiral Nelson's HMS Victory Commemorative Medal. 1905

Small copper medal issued by the British & Foreign Sailor's Society to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Lord Nelson's death at the Battle of Trafalgar. Dating from 1905.

This medal was made from copper taken Admiral Nelson's ship, H.M.S. Trafalgar and was sold in aid of the 'Nelson Centenary Memorial Fund'. The front bears the image of Nelson's flagship at the battle of Trafalgar, "H.M.S. Victory" and below the caption, "Victory - 1905". The Reverse bears the inscription, "From B.F.S.S. Nelson Centenary Containing Victory Copper - E.R.VII" (B.F.S.S. = British & Foreign Sailor's Society, E.R.VII = King Edward VII). Width : 30.5mm. Good condition.
