W.W.I. Silver & Enamel 'South Staffordshire Regiment' Sweetheart Brooch. 1914

Original, nice quality, W.W.I., solid sterling silver and enamel, "South Staffordshire Regiment" sweetheart brooch, dating from 1914. These brooches were known as "sweethearts" as they were purchased by servicemen to give to their loved ones.
This quality brooch is made in the form of a miniature representation of the regiment's badge and has areas of gilding as well as being decorated with red and blue enamel. The reverse is stamped with a full English (Birmingham) sterling silver hallmark corresponding to the year 1914 and with the silversmith's initials, "W.J.D.". Overall length : 31mm. Nice condition. Comes with a modern jewellers box.
