Unique Original 'Great Western Railway Staff' Records Ledger
SOLD

Original "Register of Staff" ledger for the famous Great Western Railway.
This large ledger contains records of some of G.W.R.'s staff. The records are all hand written and include : "Man's Registered No."; "Surname" & "Christian Names"; "Date of Birth"; "Date of Entering Service & Removals"; "Rank or Grade"; "Station"; "Date of Advances"; "Salary or Wages"; "Cautions & Fines" - including "Date of Offence" & "Particulars of Offence & Punishment"; and "Remarks". As well as these records, others have also been entered such as examinations, military service, retirement details and death. All the entries are beautifully hand written and give details of 75 separate members of staff (two leaves have at some point been removed deleting one complete record and partially effecting two others). The positions of staff listed include quite a few inspectors. The earliest date entered (referring to service with GWR and not date of birth) is 1854 and the latest is 1928. Dimensions : 376mm x 258mm x 36mm. Some wear and tear to cover (leather covering over spine has been replaced). Pages are in nice condition and the binding still very strong.
A unique piece of British railway history !!
