Silver "Royal Naval Patrol Service" Badge (Early Version). c.1940
SOLD

Original, solid silver (unmarked) badge specially made for the Royal Naval Patrol Service during W.W.II. Scarce early pin-on version.
This very attractive small badge was designed to be worn on to the sleeve and was only awarded to officers and ratings who had completed six months duty at sea. It bears an image of anti-submarine netting with two mines and a harpooned shark in front. Above is the crown of the Royal Navy and below a scroll with the initials "M/S - A/S" (Mine sweeping - Anti-submarine). The rear is marked with a British design registration number which corresponds to the year 1940. Overall length : 29mm. Nice condition.
This is an example of the scarce earlier pin-back version. It was only produced for a relatively short period. Due to the increasing number of pin-back badges which were being lost, the badge was redesigned with stitch-on lugs.
