Unusual W.W.I. Silver & Enamel Royal Navy Sweetheart Brooch. 1915

Unusual, quality, English sterling silver and enamel sweetheart brooch made in the form of a ship's lifebelt. Brooches such as these were known as "sweethearts" as they were purchased by sailors to give to their loved ones.
This brooch is decorated in blue enamel with the Royal Naval initials, "H M S" (His Majesty's Ship). The reverse is stamped with a full English (Birmingham) sterling silver hallmark corresponding to the year 1915, as well as the maker's initials, "A.L.Ld" (Adie & Lovekin Ltd., Silversmiths, Frederick Street, Birmingham). Width (not including pin) : 23mm. Nice condition. Comes with period jeweller's box.
