High Quality French Swallow Car Mascot - Susse Freres. 1920's

High quality car mascot (hood ornament) made in the form of a swallow, manufactured in the 1920's by the renowned Paris based foundry, "Susse Freres".

This beautiful chrome plated brass mascot depicts a swallow swooping down onto a plant and was sculptured by P. Comoléra. It is signed around it's base with the signatures, "Susse Frs Edts" (Susse Freres Editeurs) and P. Comoléra. At some point this mascot has been mounted onto a wooden base (which can easily removed). Overall height of the mascot (not including wooded base) : 168mm. Nice condition (some wear to plating).

The Susse Freres Foundry was formed in 1839 by the brothers Michel Victor and Amedee Susse. At the turn of the century Susse Freres opened a large retail shop at 13 Boulevard de Madeleine, Paris to sell their produce. This included desk items, candelabras, clocks, sculptures and throughout the 1920's, high quality car mascots. The company is still in existence today.
