Rare, Novelty Veteran Car Smoker's Companion. c.1905
SOLD

Rare, novelty desk top smoker's companion cleverly made in the form of a veteran car. Dating from around 1905.
This beautifully detailed, quality made model is constructed from wood with nickel plated brass fittings and leather upholstered seats. Although unsigned, this model is believed to have been made by the German maker, "Ernest Plank". The back section of the car hinges open to reveal a cigarette compartment and the front section a match compartment with a composition striking surface. When operated, the hand brake locks one of the back wheels preventing the model from rolling. Overall length (with compartments closed) : 175mm. Nice condition (some wear to plating, as would be expected). Model has undergone some professional "sympathetic" restoration including replacement leather upholstery. Even though they are showing some signs of age, importantly, the car is still fitted with all it's original tyres.
