Rare, Early French Racing Car Pocket Watch. c.1908

Rare French
pocket watch with an early racing car design, made as an advertising piece for
"Sauser Spark Plugs". Dating from around 1908.
Very attractive silver plated case with snap on bezel and hinged back. Ornate
bow and sides. Marked inside, "Metal Argente". Back decorated in
relief with an image of an early chain driven racing car, speeding over a
bridge. Image marked, "France". Case width : 50mm. Case condition : 80
% (a couple of small areas of wear to plating on bezel).
Nickel Plated, Swiss made, 7 jewel lever movement. Damaskeened plates. Movement
condition : 85%. Time Keeping : good.
White enamel dial with subsidiary seconds. Black numerals and markers. Blue
steel hands. Dial printed with an image of an early spark plug, with the name,
"Bougie Sauser" (Sauser Spark Plugs). Dial condition : 100%.
Comes with period watch box.
Very desirable, early motoring related watch in nice overall condition.
Reputedly modelled on a car that took part in the Vanderbilt Cup Race (see
"The Motor Car In Art" by John J. Zolomij).
