Scarce car badge made for the Automóvil Club Argentino (Automobile Club
of Argentina). Dating from the late 1940s.
This very attractive anodised aluminium badge incorporates an
early motor car wheel against a cogged wheel and a rising sun. It bears the name
of the motoring organisation, "Automovil Club
Argentino" and its affiliations, "F.I.A., A.I.T. & F.I.A.C." Length :
106.5mm. Good condition (some ageing, one bolt missing from back of badge).
The Automóvil Club Argentino (A.C.A.) was founded on June 11, 1904, by Dalmiro Varela
Castex, who in 1892 had imported the country's first registered automobile, a
Daimler, and in 1894 its second (a De Dion-Bouton). The ACA oversaw the first
recorded Argentine auto racing event, in 1906, and became a member of the
International Automotive Federation in 1926.
