Scarce 'Johnny Rudge' Rudge-Whitworth Lapel Badge. c.1930s

Scarce brass and enamel lapel badge (pin) made by the Birmingham Medal Co for the British motorcycle manufacturer, Rudge-Whitworth and dates from the late 1930s.
This badge was made in the form of the
comical character, 'Johnny Rudge' who was used in the company's advertising
merchandise during the 1930s. The design also incorporates the Rudge logo and is
decorated in black, white, red and blue enamel. The reverse is signed, "B'ham
Medal Badge Co Ltd" and is fitted with its original pin fastener. Length:
22.5mm. Very good condition.
Rudge Whitworth Cycles was a British bicycle and motorcycle manufacturer which was formed from the merger of two bicycle manufacturers in 1894. Rudge produced motorcycles from 1911 and ceased in December 1939 when the company converted to radar production for the war effort.
