Original 1938 Enamel Brooklands Racing Circuit Member's Lapel Badge

Original "Brooklands
Automobile Racing Club" member's lapel badge dating from 1938.
Attractive gilt brass lapel badge decorated with cream and blue enamel. The
front bears the image of a period racing car as well as the initials "BARC" (Brooklands
Automobile Racing Club) and the date, "1938". The reverse is signed, "Brooklands
Automobile Club" and is stamped with the serial number, "1734". It is also
marked with the makers name, "W. O. Lewis (Badges) Ltd., Birmingham". The badge
is suspended from a chord. Some minor chipping to enamel. Width : 38mm.
Brooklands was the world's first purpose built motor racing circuit. It was
built in Weybridge, Surrey, England, and opened on 28th June 1907. It was the
home to many important events including three successful World Land Speed Record
attempts. It closed at the outbreak of war in 1939 when it's grounds were taken
over by the aircraft manufacturer Vickers.
