Brooklands was the world's first purpose built motor racing circuit. It was built in Weybridge (Surrey, England) and opened on 28th June 1907. It was the home to many important events including three successful World Land Speed Record attempts. It closed at the outbreak of war in 1939 when it's grounds were taken over by the aircraft manufacturer Vickers.
The event for which this trophy was awarded was part of a meeting organised by the Royal Automobile Club and was open to the RAC and it's associate clubs. There were several contests during the day including a blindfold driving competition, a skilful driving race, a relay race, a motorcycle race, an open handicap, a cyclecar handicap and a team hill climb contest on the Test Hill. The team hill climb was won by the Herts County Auto & Aero Club, the second place (to whom this trophy was awarded ) went to the Hampshire Automobile Club and the Essex Motor club came third. The Hampshire Automobile Club team was made up of Miss Laura B. Starkey (Sunbeam), C.L.E. Geach (Vauxhall), C.E.S. Gillett (Talbot), and H. C. Lafone (Chenard-Walcker). Some of the famous names which also took part in the day's events were : Malcolm Campbell, Archie Frazer Nash, Percy Lambert and Louis Cotalen. The meeting was followed a flying display which included an altitude record attempt by T.O.M. Sopwith. For more information on the RAC & Assoc.
