Original Brooklands BARC Members' Car Badge. 1930s

Rare, original
"Brooklands Automobile Racing Club" member's car badge, dating from
the 1930s.
This very attractive badge is made from chrome plated brass and is decorated
with multicoloured enamel. The front bears the image of two racing cars speeding
along the circuit's banking, under the 'Member's' bridge. The reverse is
stamped, "This Badge is the Property of the Brooklands Automobile Racing
Club", with the number, "385" and is also marked with the makers
name, "Spencer, London". Currently mounted on to a
bakelite base (which can be easily removed). Height (not including base or bolt)
: 95mm. Good condition (some wear to plating and minor chipping to enamel).
Brooklands was the world's first purpose built motor racing circuit. It was
built in Weybridge, Surrey, England, and opened on 28th June 1907. It was the
home to many important events including three successful World Land Speed Record
attempts. It closed at the outbreak of war in 1939 when it's grounds were taken
over by the aircraft manufacturer Vickers.
