Scarce "Royal Automobile Club of Victoria" Car Badge. 1920s
SOLD

Scarce, quality, Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (Australia) car badge. Dating from the 1920s.
This very attractive, large badge is very similar in design to the British RAC Associate members' version. The badge is designed in the form of a wheel being supported by the god Mercury. Above the wheel is the King's crown. The centre of the wheel bears the enamelled badge of the "R.A.C.V.", and the reverse with the Australian "Red Ensign" flag. The foot of the badge is stamped with the maker's name, "Stokes & Son, Melbourne" and with the issue number "28404". Currently mounted onto a wooden display base (which can be easily removed). Diameter (not including foot or crown) : 101mm. Nice condition (one chip to enamel).
The Royal Automobile Club of Victoria was established in 1903 and is still in existence today.
