Small Royal Automobile Club Full Member's Grille Badge. c.1949

Small, flat version of Royal Automobile Club full members car badge. Designed to be mounted on to a radiator grille. These badges were produced for a relatively short period; between 1949 and 1953.

Chrome plated brass badge in the form of a wheel supported by the god Mercury. Above the wheel is the King's crown. The centre of the wheel bears the image of King Edward VII who in 1907 was the first Royal patron of the club, after this the club was granted permission to change it's name from the Automobile Club to the Royal Automobile Club. The reverse is flat and is stamped with the maker's name, "Birmingham Medal Co." and the issue number, "Flat 3644".  Height (not including bolt) : 106mm. Fair/Good condition (some wear to plating, 3 out of the four fixing bolts have been removed).
