Scarce "Hall-Scott Motor Car Company" Cigarette Lighter. c.1940 (Detail)

Scarce novelty desk-top cigarette lighter made in the form of a V12 engine as a promotional item for the "Hall-Scott Motor Car Company". Dating from around 1940.

This very detailed model of a Hall-Scott V12 "Defender" engine is made from plastic and chrome plated brass. The casing was manufactured by the San Francisco based, quality radio manufacturer, "Remler Co., Ltd." and the cigarette lighter mechanism by Ronson. The mechanism is the automatic petrol fuelled "Touch-Tip" type.  The lighter is operated by removing the "wand" from the internal fuel tank and pressing it down on a sprung loaded stem, this causes the lighter to spark on the wick (wick is housed in the end of the wand). Overall length : 136mm. Good condition (a small chip out of front end and two components missing from one side of engine. It may be possible to have replacements moulded from the identical components on the opposite side). Good working order.
