original war time "Brooklands Automobile Racing Club" guests lapel badge (pin)
dating from 1914.
This early, attractive gilt brass badge (pin) decorated with black enamel and was
made for the club's 1914 season, only seven years after the opening of the
circuit. The front bears the initials "BARC" (Brooklands Automobile
Racing Club) and the date, "1914". The reverse is stamped with the
number, "1416" and is also marked with the makers name, "Dobson,
200 Picadilly. W. ". The badge is mounted on a brooch pin fastener. Width :
35mm. Very good condition.
Brooklands was the world's first purpose built motor racing circuit. It was
built in Weybridge, Surrey, England, and opened on 28th June 1907. It was the
home to many important events including three successful World Land Speed Record
attempts. It closed at the outbreak of war in 1939 when it's grounds were taken
over by the aircraft manufacturer Vickers.
