Rare, original "Brooklands Automobile Racing Club" guests lapel
badge (pin) dating from 1911.
This early, attractive gilt brass badge (pin) decorated with blue enamel and was
made for the club's 1911 season, only four years after the opening of the
circuit. The front bears the initials "BARC" (Brooklands Automobile Racing Club)
and the date, "1911". The reverse is stamped with the number, "1732" and is also
marked with the makers name, "Dobson, 200 Piccadilly. W. ". The badge is mounted
on a brooch pin fastener. Width : 41mm. Excellent condition.
Brooklands was the world's first purpose built motor racing circuit. It was
built in Weybridge, Surrey, England, and opened on 28th June 1907. It was the
home to many important events including three successful World Land Speed Record
attempts. It closed at the outbreak of war in 1939 when it's grounds were taken
over by the aircraft manufacturer Vickers.
