B.O.A.C. "Speedbird Motor Club" Motor Car Badge. c.1950

Chrome plated brass and enamel car badge made for members of the British Overseas Airways Corporation (B.O.A.C.) "Speedbird Motor Club". Dating from around 1950.

Decorated in dark blue enamel, the centre bears the image of B.O.A.C.'s "Speedbird" logo surrounded by the caption "Speedbird Motor Club". Reverse is bears the maker's mark, "Ming Ware" Length : 100mm. Good condition (some wear to plating).

Britian's national airline, "British Overseas Airways Corporation" was formed in the 1939 when Imperial Airways and (the earlier) British Airways Limited merged.   B.O.A.C. continued in service until 1972 when it merged with British European Airways (B.E.A.) forming British Airways.
