Silver Brooklands "Junior Car Club" Motor Racing Presentation Spoon. 1929 - Fotheringham-Parker - Alvis

Sterling silver spoon presented to the racing driver Philip Fotheringham-Parker by the Brooklands based motor racing club "Junior Car Club" for participation in the "1929 Third Half Day Trial".
Good quality, sterling silver spoon bearing the badge of the Junior Car Club on the end of it's handle. The bowl is professionally hand engraved with the inscription "1929 - Third Half Day Trial - P. F Parker (Alvis)". The reverse of the handle is stamped with a full English sterling silver hallmark corresponding to the year 1929 and with the maker's initials, "E&C" (the distinguished silversmiths, Elkington & Co.). Overall length : 130mm. Nice condition (some light surface wear).
Philip Fotheringham-Parker was born
in Beckenham (Kent, England) in 1907 (died 1981) and was involved in motor racing
between the late 1920s and the mid 1950's. He raced many different cars
including : Alvis; Alfa Romeo; Aston Martin; E.R.A.; Jowett; Ford; and Maserati.
In 1931 he purchased one of the three 1930 ex-works Alvis "Silver
Eagle" racing cars. He used this car to compete in several races at
Brooklands throughout 1931 and 1932. After a downpour of rain during the 1932
August Senior Handicap Mountain Race he lost control of the Alvis and drove it
over the top of the banking of the Brooklands circuit. Fotheringham-Parker
escaped unhurt but bent the car's chassis. He competed in various races including Grand
Prix's and a Le Mans 24 Hours race. He won the 1951 Scottish Non-championship
Grand Prix, driving a Maserati 4CLT. Some of his competitions included :
