"Boyce Motometer" Radiator Cap Thermometer. 1920s

Good quality motor car radiator cap thermometer (motometer) manufactured by the Benjamin Electric Ltd., London. dating from the 1920s.
Motometers such as this were fitted onto the radiator cap and gave the driver an indication of the temperature of the engine. This "Gem" model has a plated, cast mazak body with nickel plated, brass bezels and is still fitted with it's original thick bevelled glass. The front panel is signed, "Boyce Moto Meter - Gem Model - Patented - Manufactured and Sold by the Benjamin Electric Ltd., London". The reverse panel has a register which indicates the highest efficient temperature range. Mounted on a hard rubber radiator cap (with repaired crack) with recently fitted, removable metal base (which allows the motometer to be stood for display). Good original condition (some ageing, and wear and tear to plating). Height (not including radiator cap) : 71mm.
