SOLD

Scarce "B.R.M." Member's Lapel Badge. 1950

Original chrome plated and enamel lapel badge made for full members of the association of the Formula 1 team "British Racing Motors".

The centre of this badge is made in the form of the BRM "star & roundel" logo and above and below is the inscription, "B.R.M.A. - Member 1950". This badge was made during the team's first year of racing while it was still under the control of Raymond Mays. The badge is mounted onto a button hole fastening and it's reverse bears the manufacturer's mark, "W.B.". Good condition.

British Racing Motors was established in 1947 by the famous pre-war racing driver Raymond Mays in an attempt to create an all British, world class racing car. The first car did not compete until August 1950 when two BRM's were entered in the International Trophy at Silverstone by Mays and Raymond Sommer, neither cars started the race. A month later a car was entered into the Goodwood Trophy where it won the race. The team did not take part in a Formula 1 race until the British Grand Prix in 1951 (both cars finished - 5th & 7th place). In 1952 the team was taken over by the Owen Racing Organization, and did not win a Grand Prix until 1959. The team continued until the end of 1974.
