W.W.I. Period Crested China Aeroplane. c.1914
SOLD

Scarce
"crested" china model of an early monoplane dating from around 1914.
This model is based on a Bleriot monoplane which as well as being a
popular aircraft with sporting pilots between 1909 & 1914, was also used by
the allies during the early stages of W.W.I. Although this model does not bear a
maker's mark, it is positively identified as being made in Staffordshire,
England by Arkinstall & Sons "Arcadian China". It has a glazed
white body with gilt detail and still has it's original china propeller. In the
centre of it's wings is a hand painted coat of arms of the city of Glasgow
(Scotland). The underside is marked with the retailer's name, "Alex
Maclaren & Sons, Glasgow". Overall length : 147mm. Excellent
condition.
