W.W.II. Period Sterling Silver Fleet Air Arm "Sweetheart" Wings (Detail)

Good quality W.W.II. period, sterling silver sweetheart brooch in the form of a pair of Fleet Air Arm pilot's wings. These brooches were known as "sweethearts" as they were purchased by airmen to give to their loved ones. 

Nicely modeled wings with the Royal Navy anchor in front of a blue enamel background and a red enamel "King's" crown. The back is stamped with the makers initials "T.L.M.". It is also stamped, "sterling".

Length : 48mm. Very good condition.

Comes with a period Jeweler's box.

The Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Air Force was formed on the 1st April 1924 and continued in service ever since. Between 24th May 1939 (when the Royal Navy regained control of naval aviation) and 1953 it's official name was changed (but not commonly used) to the Air Branch of the Royal Navy.
