Please note : light areas on the above image are reflections and not marks on the painting.

Very nice original watercolour painting depicting the famous W.W.I. British naval command, the Dover Patrol.

This attractive and well executed painting shows two submarines, including an "R" (anti-submarine) type, a destroyer, a Sopwith Camel seaplane and a SSZ (Sea Scout "Zero") airship. Dimensions (including frame) : 475mm x 375mm. Mounted and framed (the painting and mount can easily be removed from, and sent without frame to reduce the cost of shipping). Uncertain as to the exact age of this painting as it is unsigned and undated.

The Dover Patrol was formed by the Royal Navy in 1914 and had bases in Dover and Dunkirk. It was responsible for defending the English Channel against the German navy, keeping it safe for British troops and supplies crossing to France and preventing German submarines from using it as a route to the Atlantic. On the 23 April 1918, the Patrol launched the famous attack on Zeebrugge to try and seal the German U-boats in their home port. The Dover Patrol was under the command of Admiral Bacon, who was replaced in 1917 by Admiral Keyes.
