Very unusual W.W.I. period paperknife made in the form of a scimitar from a Royal Flying Corps aircraft propeller blade. Dated 1916.

Without doubt made by a member of the RFC, this paperknife, made in three separate parts was nicely carved from an aircraft propeller blade. Both sides of the handle have been hand carved with the initials, "RFC" (Royal Flying Corps) and the date, "1916". Overall length : 310mm. Good condition (some wear and tear).

 The Royal Flying Corps was formed on 13th May 1912 and served through the majority of the First World War. On 1st April 1918, the RFC and the RNAS (Royal Navy Air Service) were separated from the army and the navy and merged to form a new service, the Royal Air Force.
