Genuine W.W.I. Royal Flying Corps Sweetheart Brooch

Original W.W.I. period gilded sweetheart brooch, made in the form of the insignia of Royal Flying Corps. Brooches such as these were known as "sweethearts" as they were purchased by airmen to give to their loved ones.
Nice quality gilded brass brooch made in the form the Royal Flying Corp’s badge and is decorated with red and blue enamel. The reverse is still fitted with its original steel ‘stile’ type pin. Length: 32mm. Nice condition. Comes with a good quality ‘vintage style’ jeweller’s presentation box.
The Royal Flying Corps was formed on 13th May 1912 and served through the majority of the First World War. On 1st April 1918, the RFC and the RNAS (Royal Navy Air Service) were separated from the army and the navy and merged to form a new service, the Royal Air Force.
