DKW German Luftwaffe Motoring Event Car Badge. 1965

Very attractive German car badge made as a souvenir of a
motoring event held in 1965 for a squadron of the Luftwaffe (German Air Force)
in Cochem and organised by the DKW
Motor Club. Silver plated brass badge decorated in blue and black enamel
depicting an image of Cochem Castle and the surrounding countryside. It a bears
the insignia of the Luftwaffe squadron, Jabo-Geschwader
33 and the text "Orientierungsfahrt Mit Jabo-Geschwader 33 -
DKWC - Cochem e.V."
(translating as: "Orientation Rally
with Fighter-Bomber Squadron 33 -
DKW Club - Cochem e.V"). The
reverse is stamped with the maker's mark, "Fritz Reu & Co., Heubach/Württ".
Length : 98mm. Good condition (slight scuff to front). The Luftwaffe's Jabo-Geschwader
33 (Fighter-Bomber Squadron 33) were based in Büchel Air Base, near Cochem and
from 1962 flew the F-104G Lockheed Starfighter (which is incorporated into their
insignia - see above image). During the 'cold war' they formed part of NATO's
Q.R.A. Force (Quick Reaction Alert Force).
