Nice quality, English made, novelty pipe rack made in the form of a military jet aircraft, bearing some resemblance to a Vickers Valiant bomber. Dating from the 1950s.

This very unusual pipe rack is made from solid wood. The pipe bowls are supported within cut-outs in the base (lined with green suede leather) and their stems are supported within holes in the wings. The underside of the base is still fitted with its original rubber feet and bears the maker's plaque, "Tallent of Old Bond Street - Made in England". Overall width: 260mm. Good condition.

The Vickers Valiant was a British military jet aircraft originally developed for use as high-level strategic bomber. It first flew in 1951 and formed part of the RAF's 'V' bomber force.
