'Dinky Toys' Die Cast Hawker Hunter Model. c.1955

Miniature die-cast model of a Royal Air Force Hawker Hunter fighter. Made in England around 1955 by Meccano Ltd. as part of their "Dinky Toys" series (No.736).
This model is still fitted with all it's wheels and is decorated with it's original camouflage paint work, and transfers. Good condition (no damage, slight wear to paint and transfers). Length : 72mm.
The very successful Hawker Hunter was designed by Sidney Camm (the designer of many Hawker aircraft including the Hurricane). The prototype was first flown on 20th July 1951 by the the famous W.W.II. ace (28 victories) and early jet test pilot, Neville Duke. On the 7th September 1953 he set a new air speed record of 727.62 mph flying a Hunter. It entered service with the Royal Air Force in July 1954 and over the years was modified many times. It served with the air forces of no less than 19 countries.
