Rare, genuine, W.W.I. period auxiliary propeller manufactured by W. D. Oddy & Co. This item was originally fitted to a Royal Flying Corps aircraft and was used to drive a 500 watt electrical generator. These generators were first manufactured by Lucas in 1917, were usually bolted to either the aeroplane's undercarriage or a wing strut and were designed to produce electricity to power such items as cockpit/navigation lighting and heated suits.

This beautiful quality auxiliary propeller is in totally original and untouched condition and has a very nice patina. It is made from laminated mahogany and was manufactured using the same methods as the full size versions. The boss is stamped with both the War Department 'Aviation' and the Aeronautical Inspection Directorate marks. The side is stamped with the serial number, "T48142", the manufacturer's name, "W. D. Oddy", and with the power rating of the generator it was made for, "500 Watt 2". Overall Length: " 458mm. Nice condition (some slight knocks to the tips for the blades).

W. D. Oddy & Co. Ltd were specialist propeller manufacturers who were based in Leeds, Yorkshire. The original directors were William Davey Oddy and Robert Blackburn (also founder of the The Blackburn Aeroplane & Motor Company).
